For Bracelets and Cuffs

Measuring for a Bracelet involves not only correctly measuring your wrist, but also includes adjusting the measurement for preference.

For Example – your wrist may measure 6.25 inches in length, but you may like your Bracelet to fit a little more loosely on your arm, you will need to add an allowance to account for your preference.

The simplest way to measure for your Bracelet is with a soft flexible tape measure, the type a seamstress uses. If you do not happen to have one, you can use a string or ribbon and a flat ruler.

Follow the Steps Below

Wrist Measurement

Measure the circumference of your wrist above the wrist bone (towards the Elbow) with the tape measure. This is your Size in inches, but not necessarily your preferred size. You will need to account for enough room to fasten and unfasten the bracelet. Add 1/2  inch to your measurement for most clasp types.

If you are using a string, you will want to cut the string where the 2 ends meet on your arm. Using the ruler, measure the length of the string or ribbon. As above, add approx. 1/2 inch to account for clasping and unclasping the bracelet.

  • To adjust for your preference, you can simple adjust the tape measure to loosen the fit to your desired length. Check the available sizes and choose according to your preference.
  • If the bracelet closes with snaps for a box clasp, you will only need to add about 1/4 inch to your measurement.
  • Cuff Bracelets are usually meant to fit the arm rather snugly, but it is really a personal preference.

For Bangles

How to Measure for a Bangle

Bangles are typically a closed bracelet, meaning that they do not have a clasp and you have to roll the bangle over your hand to put it on.

When measuring for a Bangle, you use the same technique as for a regular clasped bracelet, you simply change the position of the tape measure from the wrist area to the hand.

Follow the Steps Below to Measure for a Bangle:

  1. Using the Tape Measure or a String/Ribbon – Pull your thumb inwards under the hand and measure around the widest part of your hand (typically around the knuckles at the base of your fingers.
  2. Add a 1/4 inch to this measurement to allow the bangle to pass over the knuckles smoothly.
