Hello and Welcome back.....

In the last few weeks, we have completed the Sunburst Components and the Sunburst Pendant Pattern.

This week I am adding two new small components to the Necklace project.

In this post, I will show you another Brick Stitch technique called Brick Stitch around a Bead.

Brick Stitch on a Bead is a fabulous and diverse technique. Once you master the basics you can begin to explore the gorgeous variations of the technique.

If you would like to see a few examples of you can check out my Baby Bali Earrings Pattern
and my Paradise Found Beaded Necklace.

If you need more in depth help with this technique, get the Brick Stitch on a Bead Technique Guide here.

Preparing the Pearl  ~ Creating the Thread Bridges

Similar to the Brick Stitch on a Frame technique we used to make the Sunburst Component, we need some sort of thread bridge to begin adding the first row of beads.

Previously, the metal hoop components were substituted for the thread bridge.

In this technique we will create our own on the outside edge of the Pearls.

Pick up one Pearl and carry towards the end of the thread – leaving a 2 inch tail.

Pass the needle back through the Pearl from the bottom to the top and pull thru. You will now have a thread on the outside edge of the Pearl.

Repeat this step 3 more times and position 2 threads on each side of the bead.

Row 1

In Brick Stitch you will always begin the row by picking up 2 beads.

Pick up 2 11/0 MG and pass the needle under both threads one side of the Pearl.
Pass back up thru the last bead added.

Straighten Bead One

Pass down through the first bead and back up through the last bead added again.

For the remainder of the row – Pick up one MG and pass under both thread bridges on this side of the Pearl.

Pass back up through the bead.

Keep your tension uniform and make sure your beads line up straight in a row.

Eventually you will reach the opposite end of the Pearl and will need to begin adding the Seed Beads to the other side.

Simply pick up you next MG and pass under the 2 threads on the opposite side and then pass back up through the seed bead as usual.

At the end of the row, we close the bead work as follows:

Pass the needle down thru the first bead of the row and then back up thru the last bead of the row.

Row 2

Begin the row by picking up 2 DB and pass under the second thread bridge as shown.

Pass back up through the last bead added.

Straighten the first bead as shown above.

Complete the remainder of the row adding one DB at at time using the next thread bridge along the previous row of beads.

Note that you may need to reuse a thread bridge occasionally to avoid gaps as discussed in Sunburst Component Part 1 – The Outer Rows.

Try to keep your tension even and not too tight as you work.

Remember to close the bead work as in Row 1 before beginning the next row.

Row 3

Repeat all the steps for one more Row using the 8/0 Seed Beads.

Make sure to add the first 2 8/0’s by skipping to the second thread bridge.

Straighten the First Bead and continue adding beads one at a time to the end of the row.

After you have closed the bead work, move through the 8/0 beads until you are close to the tail thread.

Pass down through all three rows as shown.

Tie 2 knots with both threads.

Pass down through the Pearl before ending the threads.

Repeat all the steps above to make at least 2 of the Components for the Sunburst Necklace.

We are coming close to the end of The Sunburst Necklace Series.
